Professional belly dancer Zafirah - Zafirah from Montreal @ 8:30 pm

Zafirah discovered Middle Eastern Dance with Montreal artist, Maya. Since her first class, she knew that this ancient art was her true passion and so began an intensive training with several internationally known teachers. In 2006, she did an intensive three-week workshop in Turkey with Middle Eastern and Roman Dance master teachers. In 2007 she began a professional and teaching training course with Hadia, Aziza and Chérizar. In that same year, Zafirah won second place in the Professional 1 Category at the AQDO (Association de Dance Orientale du Québec) competition. In 2008, she won two first place awards at the Dance Orientale et ses Fusions competition in the professional and fusion categories. She also was one of the few guest artists for Combination Nation Vol.1 DVD and By dancers for Dancers, produced by Michelle Joyce. In November 2009, she took 3rd place in the   folklore category at the  Belly Dancer of the World International Competition organized by Leyla Jouvana.  Zafirah, with her energy, charisma and authenticity, charms viewers’ hearts!

Basimah comes to us from northern New York and has been Belly Dancing for over nine years. She currently teaches classes in St. Lawrence County and performs throughout the eastern part of the United States. Through the years of performing, Basimah has been known for interpreting the music with emotion that is not only seen but felt.
